How it works

From export to review list in a few minutes

No integration to set up. Export the pay period from your time clock and upload it.

  1. Upload your export

CSV or Excel, up to 20 MB. Punch-level files get the full review; hours summaries get weekly overtime checks.

  2. Confirm the columns

Known formats are mapped for you. For anything else, match the columns once and PunchAudit remembers them next time.

  3. Review the flags

Possible issues, record gaps, informational estimates, and citations — as HTML, PDF, and CSV.

What you get

Careful checks, plainly explained

PunchAudit is built to be conservative: it flags what the records show and is explicit about what they can’t show.

Works with the export you have

Known formats are detected automatically. Anything else can be mapped column by column once, and the mapping is remembered.

Federal baseline everywhere

FLSA weekly overtime, the $7.25 federal minimum, short unpaid breaks, long shifts, rounding patterns, and punch data quality — for employers in any state.

California and Washington in depth

Daily overtime and double time, 7th day, meal timing and length, rest periods, split shifts, §226.7 premium estimates, and state minimum wage.

Honest about what it can’t see

If the file doesn’t contain the data a check needs, the report says “cannot verify” instead of guessing — and never treats a gap as a pass.

Citations on every flag

Each flag links to the statute, regulation, or agency guidance it is based on, with the assumptions behind any estimate.

Reports you can hand off

A shareable HTML report, a PDF for your files, and a full CSV for your payroll provider or counsel to review.

Coverage

Every state gets a federal baseline. Two get much more.

Federal overtime and timecard checks for every state, with in-depth state rules for California and Washington (more states coming).

All 50 states + DC

Federal FLSA baseline

  • Weekly overtime over 40 hours
  • Federal minimum wage ($7.25), with a tip-credit caveat
  • Short breaks recorded as unpaid meals
  • Long shifts and odd or missing punches
  • Rounding that favors the employer over time
  • A clear note on what state law may add
In depth

California & Washington

  • Daily overtime, double time, and 7th day (CA)
  • Meal timing, length, and second meals
  • Rest periods, or “cannot verify” when not recorded
  • Split shift, reporting time, §226.7 premium estimates (CA)
  • Meal window and auto-deduct flags (WA)
  • State minimum wage tables
Planned next

Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, Alaska

These states have their own overtime, break, or minimum-wage rules. Until their packs ship, reports for these states run the federal baseline and say plainly that state rules weren’t checked.

FAQ

Questions, answered plainly

Is this legal advice?

No. PunchAudit flags possible issues in your time records so you can review them. It doesn’t determine whether a law was broken, isn’t an opinion of counsel, and doesn’t create an attorney-client relationship. Confirm anything important with qualified employment counsel or your state labor agency.

Which states are supported?

Every US state and DC gets federal FLSA checks: weekly overtime over 40 hours, the federal minimum wage, short unpaid breaks, long shifts, rounding patterns, and punch data quality. California and Washington also get in-depth state rules. Other states’ own rules (for example a higher state minimum wage, daily overtime, or required breaks) are not checked yet, and the report says so. Oregon, Colorado, Nevada, and Alaska are planned next.

What does my file need to contain?

At minimum: an employee ID or name, clock-in and clock-out times (or punch type and time), and the work state (or pick a default). Meal and rest start/end times and an hourly rate unlock more checks. Missing data shows up as “cannot verify,” not as a problem.

Do you store my employees’ time records?

No. Uploaded files are processed in memory and are not written to disk. The report is kept in memory for 24 hours so you can download it, then it is purged. We keep only metadata such as rule counts, file hashes, and your saved column mappings (column names, never cell values).

How are dollar amounts estimated?

Estimates use the base hourly rate in your file and only count the premium portion of overtime (for example 0.5× for time-and-a-half) and California meal/rest premium hours. They’re labeled informational, and the regular rate may include other pay. PunchAudit never calculates penalties.

What does the free audit include?

One review of up to 25 employees in any state, with a watermarked report. No card required.
